The IB grad class of 2018 was a part of more than 1.7 million DP graduates in 152 countries worldwide.
Our grads achieved an excellent set of IB results, in what has been another record-breaking year for us. The average grade achieved by our students is 35 points out of a possible 45 – the world average grade is 29.95 points. Well done to the IB Class of 2018 for their excellent results this year! We applaud their outstanding efforts and thank the teachers for their hard work and support. Our cohort of 61 Diploma students took the IB Pathway and 98% of students successfully achieved the full diploma. More than 100 IB Course students received IB Certificates for their achievement in different subjects.
While we recognize and celebrate these results, it is even more important to congratulate these students on being offered admission to courses and universities of their first choice which will pave the way into their future. We are delighted that our students this year gained entry to major Canadian, UK and US universities.
Finally, it is also worth commending the class of 2018 for their exceptional commitment to both student leadership and service at school, and in local and international communities over the course of their two-year programme. They led school clubs such as Globalizers, Student Council, Earthworks, Model UN, Debate, and Science. They helped to organize and volunteer at local events such as the Children’s festival, Lunar Festival, Chinese paper-cutting for Semiahmoo Arts, and teaching traditional dance to children with the Kohinoor Folk Arts club. They cared about our environment through Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad and Green Chair Recycling. They volunteered at different senior centres, local hospitals, participated in beach surveys for Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society, organized various educational programs for kids in rural areas of China and participated in the Me to We Humanitarian trip to India. They invited a double-lung organ recipient to share her story at a Semi Shines talent show fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis research. These are just to mention a few! They made a strong impact at our school and in the greater community.
We would also like to welcome our new cohort of 2020! IB Orientation Day for Gr. 11s on September 7, 2018, Friday, was a big success. Students learned more about the programme, and participated in several fun activities. We wish them to be very successful in their two-year IB journey!
